I am a staff member and group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg. I work on the development and application of statistical data analysis methods for inference in large astronomical data sets, in particular for the Gaia mission. My interests include, among other things, exoplanets, nearby stars, the impact of astronomical phenomena on the Earth, life in the universe, and the physics of interstellar travel.
